Britain’s King Charles plans to make Princess Charlotte (7 years old) the only daughter of Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, Duchess of Edinburgh, instead of giving the title to his brother Prince Edward Earl (58 years), “a member of the British royal family who is the youngest and third son of the late Queen Elizabeth II.” and the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” according to a report published by The Telegraph newspaper.

And while Edward was expected to inherit the dukedom following his father’s death last year, King Charles allegedly withheld the title, to give it to his granddaughter.

Royal insiders claim that giving little girl Charlotte the senior royal role would be a tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Private sources told the Daily Mail: “Discussions are ongoing, but the King’s preferred outcome is that this title should go to Princess Charlotte.”

Charlotte is third in line to the throne following her father, Prince William of Wales, and her older brother, Prince George.

The old rule of royal succession, which gave men precedence over women in the line of succession, was abolished by the Succession to the Crown Act in 2013.

This means that Charlotte’s situation was not affected when her younger brother, Prince Louis, was born in 2018.

A source said: Charlotte’s position is historically important, as she is the first woman in the royal family whose younger brother will not take her place in the line of succession.

He was granted the title of Duke of Edinburgh three times in the history of the British monarchy: in 1726 he succeeded to Prince Frederick who was in the direct line of succession and later became Prince of Wales.

And in 1866 to Prince Alfred, then George VI granted the title to Prince Philip when he married Princess Elizabeth in 1947, and the couple became the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

For years it was thought that Prince Edward would be bestowed the title.
