SAINT JOSEPH, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu was suspended for the first six games of the regular season on Friday.

The penalty comes from a violation of the NFL’s policy on personal behavior, following allegations of domestic violence in January.

Omenihu was a member of the San Francisco 49ers when police were called to his San Jose residence.

A woman claiming to be his girlfriend told police that he pushed her to the ground during an argument.

She had no visible injuries and refused to receive medical treatment.

In March, the Chiefs gave Omenihu a two-year deal that might be worth $20m.

Omenihu is eligible to play in all three preseason games for the Chiefs. In the regular season, he won’t be able to play until Week 7 – October 22, once morest the San Diego Chargers.

Omenihu had four and a half sacks last year, appearing in 17 games for the Niners.
