Charles Leclerc is fastest in the first session of Jeddah practice against Verstappen

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc set the fastest time in the first practice session of the Formula 1 Saudi Grand Prix, the second round of the Formula 1 World Championship for the 2022 season, at the Jeddah Corniche circuit.

Leclerc’s time was 1:30.772 minutes ahead of defending champion and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen by 0.116 seconds. Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas finished third.

Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz finished fourth, while the Alpha Tauri team, with drivers Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda, finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Gasly used his second power unit this season, following failing in the first round in Bahrain, while Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Alpine’s Fernando Alonso were also fitted with new power unit parts, a new internal combustion engine, ahead of the session.

Seventh place went to Perez, and Alonso completed the top ten behind his colleague Esteban Ocon.
