The private fortune of Charles III, King of the United Kingdom since the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, is estimated at 1.8 billion pounds sterling, or more than 2 billion euros.

Wealth difficult to establish. The British daily The Guardian estimated the private fortune of Charles III at nearly 1.8 billion pounds sterling, or more than 2 billion euros.

The newspaper has indeed announced that it has carried out a complete audit of the king’s assets. Among the main ones, the sovereign of the United Kingdom would enjoy several paintings of great value, in particular works by Salvador Dalí or the French painter Claude Monet. The king would also have a collection of luxury cars, as well as race horses whose value has been estimated at nearly 27 million pounds, the media continues. The royal family had, in the time of the queen, already made sales of horses, mainly offered by sovereigns of the Gulf.

Charles III, who is to be officially crowned on May 6, also has a huge family heritage. Indeed, he would have benefited from the collection of stamps of the late Elizabeth II, estimated at “100 million pounds”, still according to the British daily. Regarding the real estate component, the king can count on dozens of properties, acquired by the royal family, including the official residences of Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, or Clarence House, a house located in London on the Mall. Finally, the castle of Balmoral, the Delnadamph pavilion or even Highgrove House, became the private properties of Charles III, on the death of his mother.

Non-existent transparency

The Guardian recalled that the figure mentioned remained approximate, since Buckingham Palace is not used to being transparent regarding the fortunes of British monarchs. A discretion that is added to the exemption from inheritance tax enjoyed by the royal family, allowing it to be spared by an outside look at its heritage.

For his part, the king’s spokesman denied the amount of Charles III’s personal fortune established by the Guardian. “While we do not comment on private finance, your numbers are a very creative mix of speculation, assumptions and inaccuracies,” he wrote in a statement.

Difficult to quantify the real private fortune of Charles III since, by virtue of his belonging to the royal family, he is part of what his grandfather King George VI called “a company”, recalls the American magazine Cosmopolitain. A real empire whose financial power Forbes has measured at more than 28 billion dollars (nearly 25 billion euros) released per year, and which would inject millions into the British economy per year.
