Discovery’s announcement comes after TNT was not involved in the NBA’s media rights deal for 11 years.

Barkley, 61, told host Dan Le Batard that his top priority is ensuring Turner’s staff stays employed for at least another year. Despite big offers from outside networks, Barkley is content to stay at TNT and ensure job security for his team.

Barkley signed a 10-year deal with TNT Sports in 2022 and has been a commentator for NBA on TNT as well as Inside the NBA. In late July, TNT lost its NBA media rights after the league rejected Warner Bros. Discovery’s $1.8 billion-a-year offer, which matched Amazon’s offer.

The NBA’s new deal with ESPN, NBC and Amazon Prime Video will begin in the 2025-26 season and is expected to generate $76 billion.

Barkley expressed his disappointment on Instagram, calling it a sad day when owners and commissioners put money before fans. He also thanked Turner’s team and NBA fans for their support. (People/Z-3)
