In Charleroi, the Walloon Region has wanted, for several years, to recover the so-called Porte Ouest land – a vast industrial wasteland of 98 hectares belonging to the Duferco group – to ensure its conversion. The government, led by the Minister of the Economy Willy Borsus (MR), entrusted the file to one of the Walloon economic tools, Sogepa, which has now become Wallonie Entreprendre (WE). On May 25, 2022, an agreement was signed between the parties to record the sale of the land, subject to depollution.
