The three Carolos police officers arrested Monday morning as part of a case under investigation were charged and placed under arrest warrant, the Charleroi prosecutor’s office announced Tuesday evening in a press release: “One is charged with count of forgery by a civil servant, breach of trust, offenses once morest weapons legislation. A second was charged with forgery by an official, embezzlement by an official, breach of trust, violation of professional secrecy and unlawful consultation of a database. The last is charged with forgery by an official, embezzlement by an official, breach of trust, violation of professional secrecy, unlawful consultation of a data bank and offenses once morest weapons legislation,” the prosecution said.

One of these three police officers is also charged with criminal conspiracy in the context of another case… The one leading to the search Monday morning in Lodelinsart (Charleroi), which cost the life of Jonathan (36), member special units of the federal police.

A link between the two files

Initially, the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office refused to establish a link between these two cases. Although these two files are distinct, a link exists. One of the three police officers charged is in fact suspected of “being linked” to one of the protagonists in the case which led to the search of Lodelinsart.

A link which explains that the interventions in these two separate files were carried out in a coordinated manner. “The police officer in question was also placed under arrest warrant in the case which led to the search in Lodelinsart, for criminal association,” indicated the public prosecutor. The latter, however, affirms that there is no evidence to establish that there was contact between the arrested police officer and Ricardo G, the author of the fatal shootings on Monday, in order to warn him of the police operation.

Duties are underway, concluded the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office, which decided to no longer communicate information to the press “in order to allow the instructions to continue with serenity”.

Clarification

Earlier in the day, the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office also reviewed the progress of the search – which ended in death – carried out on Monday morning. The police team forced the front door of Ricardo G.’s home as part of a “reinforced” search due to the suspect’s profile. According to our colleagues at SudInfo, the fifty-year-old was known to the courts for robberies.

Upon passing through the door, the special units had first contact with the suspect’s partner. “The latter was in the living room when the police showed up. Then, very quickly, the agents came under fire from another room, a suspect firing from behind a door,” detailed Vincent Fiasse, King’s Prosecutor of Charleroi.

The police responded, then took care of their three injured colleagues. “No more shots came from the person concerned’s room,” added the public prosecutor. With the support of reinforcements, the police officers from the special units then returned to the house to discover the suspect very seriously injured – he died of a heart attack a little later in hospital.

According to the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office, the latter would have been surprised in his sleep and seemed “to have the habit of sleeping with a weapon near him. The first elements of the investigation also show that the person concerned did not shoot at random and had the opportunity to aim. »

A more reassuring vital prognosis

In addition to Jonathan, who died, another police officer (33 years old) was seriously injured during this attack. His condition remains worrying. “His vital prognosis is more reassuring than yesterday, but caution remains in order,” says Vincent Fiasse. The third injured agent is out of the situation and has left the hospital.

On Wednesday, the Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden, is expected in the House to answer questions from deputies.
