Charged in regatta shooting: Guests were in danger when two men shot at car to kill

A showdown in the criminal environment triggered a dramatic shooting episode, where shots were fired in the open street in the direction of the waterfront, where several hundred citizens were.

On Monday, the trial begins against two 20-year-old men who are charged with attempted murder against one particular person and for putting several others in danger.

The men are also charged with illegal possession of weapons, and since firearms were used in the open street, they are also charged under the provision that makes it possible to increase the sentence by up to half.

Showdown between criminals

The shooting incident is described by the police as a showdown in the criminal environment.

However, it is still unclear whether it has a direct connection to the pending gang conflict in Aalborg between GT and A12.

The two young men are also not prosecuted under the so-called gang section, which can be used when, for example, a shooting incident occurs as part of an ongoing conflict.

However, the police believe that the gun that was used during the shooting can be linked to guns that have been found among people associated with the GT group.

Weapons are linked to a gang environment

The 20-year-old – the one who, according to the prosecution, fired the shots – is also accused of being in possession of two other pistols in addition to the one used for the regatta shooting.

One of the other pistols was found during a police operation against an address in Dronninglund, where the police were looking for people from the GT group.

The second gun was found at the address where the 20-year-old was arrested in connection with the investigation into the regatta shooting.

In both places he was with people connected to the GT group.

In addition, the person the two men are accused of shooting is a very well-known figure in Aalborg’s criminal environment.

According to Nordjyske’s information, he has previously been allied with GT, but switched sides at some point, and should now be connected to GT’s rival gang, A12.

Regatta guests were at risk

The shooting happened during the regatta on August 25 last year at around 7.15pm.

According to the indictment, the two defendants were walking along Østerbro and Nytorv with two others when a black Volvo came driving towards them.

When the 20-year-old discovered who was driving the car, he shaped his hand like a gun and put his hand down the hem of his pants to pretend he had a gun.

This caused the driver of the Volvo to drive a little further forward and make a U-turn and drive past the defendants at the passage by Aalborg Hovedbibliotek in the direction of Rendsburggade.

It was here that the second defendant – according to the indictment – ran forward from the passage, wearing a mask and armed with a gun, which he fired seven times at the car.

According to the indictment, he fired seven shots at the car in the direction of the waterfront.

Some of the shots hit the car, but not all.

At least one of the shots hit a sign on the waterfront, which was packed with people this evening during the regatta.

No one was hit by shots – not even the person in the car for whom the shots were intended.

Six court days have been set aside for the case.
