Unprecedented scene in the center of Perwez. This Tuesday morning, a truck, which was carrying a crane, caused chaos by hitting several vehicles, destroying a wall and stamping poles. A real strike!
On the part of the authorities, it is the most total incomprehension. The driver has indeed demolished barriers and crossed roads in the wrong direction, before abandoning the truck and fleeing. His colleague stayed behind.
The police quickly went to the scene and wanted to question the individual, Dutch-speaking, who however did not wish to reveal the identity of his colleague. The police therefore contacted the boss of the company, in order to learn more and find the driver.
His truck crossed the streets of Marronniers, Brasseurs and Saint-Roch, where he took everything in his path. Despite the imposing size of the vehicle, it would not be the narrowness of the roads that would be in question.
Impossible this Tuesday morning to know the state of the driver and his colleague at the time of the facts and therefore to attribute these multiple accidents to any state of intoxication.
Given the extent of the damage, which is fortunately only material, it is the Walloon Brabant Prosecutor’s Office which took charge of the file.
The mayor of Perwez Jordan Godfriaux had never seen that. “He went through sections where there is enough space. With the technical service, we do not explain the damage caused. We will wait to know his version of the facts, but we can just say that there is no structural problems with mobility at these locations. He did not stop following hitting the first car, he continued and crashed into barriers, walls and other cars. This is not related to the infrastructure or the narrowness of the streets.”
An order has been issued to manage the mobility and safety of Perwéziens, stunned by the damage caused.
