In Brussels, it is a reform that does not pass. Many residents did not realize that the collection day had changed this week. Result ? Many sidewalks are flooded with garbage cans. Several mayors of the capital are asking for catch-up collections. On the side of Bruxelles-Propreté, we do not hear it that way.
Two different visions
“It is chaos on the territory of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre. All the white trash cans, or at least a large part of them, are out when they shouldn’t be. There was clearly a lack of information. She was late (…) and here is the result today“, indignantly the mayor of the town, Benoît Cerexhe.
The waste manager, Bruxelles-Propreté, recognizes recurring problems, but there is no question of a systematic catch-up tour. “These faults are also part of learning. Citizens realize that they made a mistake because they see their bags on the street. If we remove them immediately, next week, they will make the same mistake once more. So we are also careful to give them time to learn regarding their mistakes.“, explains Etienne Cornesse, spokesperson for Bruxelles-Propreté
As a reminder, food waste, which represents 40% of white bags, must now be placed in orange bags. Hence the reduction in rounds.
