CHANNING Tatum, 44, is swapping his iconic moves for superhero action moves in Marvel Studios’ latest film, Deadpool & Wolverine. Tatum, who stars as Gambit/Remy LeBeau, shared a sneak peek of his preparation for the surprise role, an X-Men character he’s been working towards for over a decade to bring to the big screen.

On Tuesday, August 6, Tatum posted a video on Instagram showing clips of himself practicing hand-to-hand combat and using Gambit’s signature baton. He also shared several clips of himself practicing in costume and adapting to Gambit’s look.

Tatum added a simple caption to his post: “Couillon-zwah!” and shared Reynolds’ Instagram post from Monday, August 5, thanking him for his involvement. Tatum added the post to his Instagram Stories and wrote, “This sweet man made me cry.” Tatum also added, “Laissez le bon temps rouler (Let the good times roll).”

Reynolds, 47, also shared Tatum’s photo on Instagram Stories. “There are not enough words to describe the crazy things this guy can do with playing cards. He should not be allowed near a casino. Ever.” Tatum re-shared the story on his own profile.

Reynolds wrote in his tribute: “Gambit is a character Chan was born to play,” Reynolds wrote on Instagram on Monday, August 5, alongside a gallery of photos of Tatum working on Deadpool & Wolverine. “His story is similar to my path on Deadpool — where Chan spent a decade trying to get the most accurate version of Gambit on the big screen.”

“Remy LeBeau is tied to his soul and has to go out and deal,” Reynolds continued, “Some characters can only exist with a one-in-a-billion partner and this is that partner. Gambit found its writer in Chan. He’s one of the coolest, smartest characters in Comics and still very under-explored.”

Tatum was originally considered for Gambit in 2006 for X-Men: The Last Stand, but the character was cut from the film. Three years later, Taylor Kitsch was cast for the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). Tatum remained adamant that Gambit would have his own film, but in 2019, as Disney finalized its purchase of 20th Century Fox, the film was canceled.

Now, five years later, Tatum has finally realized his vision of Gambit, and he has since thanked Reynolds and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy for their support. (People/Z-3)
