American actor Channing Tatum says he had to go into dark places to get into the skin of his new character: a psychopath.

“This is the first time I’ve played someone (like that),” Tatum said in an interview with Total Film, of which the specialist magazine has released a preview.

“I usually have some kind of affection or connection to all the characters I play,” said the “Magic Mike” star. However, that approach was out of his reach on this occasion, he said.

Difficulties

“I don’t think I’ll ever tell anyone what I had to create inside my head to play this person,” Tatum continued. “He’s a psychopath,” the magazine said.

The “Fly me to the Moon” singer is the protagonist of “Blink Twice,” Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut, a tense thriller that dissects wealth, lust and power, the publication explains. In the film, Tatum will recreate the figure of Slater King, a multimillionaire technology magnate who acts like a psychopath.

Drama

For Kravitz, the drama of the film, which will be released next August, is heightened by the fact that its characters are trapped in an unfamiliar place. “It was really more about power dynamics,” the director adds to Total Film.

“And trying to create a situation where the characters were isolated. That is, in my opinion, the scariest situation you can find yourself in, whether you’re trapped in the trunk of a car, or in a closet, or in a dark room at a party,” he said.
