Baeza (Jaén), Aug 25 (EFE).- The professor of Human Physiology and Exercise at the INEF and Faculty of Physical Education of the University of Granada Ángel Gutiérrez has called attention to the importance of changing the teaching paradigm in medical schools, where “students are educated for failure, not to prevent disease.”

Gutiérrez participates in the course ‘Active aging as a response to the great demographic challenge: scientific updates and proposals’, organized by the International University of Andalusia (UNIA) at its headquarters in Baeza (Jaén), where he told EFE that, the students of Medicine, they are taught “to fight with therapies for diseases”, so that they are “educated for failure, for defeat, for illness, for death”, by not facing health from prevention and yes from the attempted cure.

And it is that, “we have not been educated to prevent the disease,” says this expert, who defends that “we can only cure a person of their disease when they are willing to renounce the causes that generated it, that is the key” .

In addition, he has criticized the absence of hours dedicated to physical exercise in medical schools, as well as training in nutrition or control of emotions and stress, when, on the contrary, “there is psychiatry, there is psychopathology, everything is prepared for the disease , for schizophrenia, for psychopaths…, but they don’t teach you to be happy, they don’t teach you to eat well, they don’t teach you to move.”

In addition, he has made a call to change eating habits to reach middle age in good physical condition, since “food is oriented towards generating pleasure, not solving nutritional needs”, so that “it is one thing to feed yourself, is what enters through the mouth, and another thing is to nourish yourself, which is what enters the cell”, with which “you can take 5,000 calories a day and have anemia”, which is generating “metabolic syndromes, hypertension, diabetes , joint, digestive, emotional, thyroid or cancer disorders”.

Regarding cancer, he recalled that, to his students, “years ago I told them that one in four are going to have cancer, then I tell them one in three is going to have it, and now I tell them two out of three, but I’m not joking, that’s evidence.” EFE
