Like every first of the month, many measures come into force this Sunday. Gas prices, coverage of dental care, revaluation of APL or even less salt in the baguette, here is everything you need to remember from the changes that are taking place.
Good news for beneficiaries of personalized housing assistance (APL): they will be revalued like every year at the same period for ten years. With one caveat, however, this increase will be capped at 3.5% in mainland France.
Allowance for disabled adults no longer takes into account the spouse’s income. This was a long-standing request from associations regarding this aid paid to 1.29 million people in 2022. Promised by Emmanuel Macron during his campaign for a second term, deconjugalization was adopted by Parliament in July 2022 but while this new calculation method applies, the new formula applies from October 1st. This measure should benefit 120,000 people.
The bakery sector is committed to lowering the salt threshold in bread once more, imperceptibly: from 1.5 grams of salt per 100 grams of common or traditional bread, the objective increases to 1.4 grams starting at October. In France, salt levels in common breads such as baguettes have decreased by more than 20% since 2015, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Measures adopted for a more balanced diet: eat less salty reduces blood pressure and the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke and myocardial infarction.
The ceiling of the Popular Savings Booklet (LEP), reserved for the most modest households, passes from 7,700 euros to 10,000 euros. A change which should above all benefit those who have already reached the previous ceiling of 7,700 euros on their savings account, or around one in two holders, according to data from the Banque de France, at the end of 2022.
Less good news this time: dental care will no longer be covered as much by Social Security. Until now, reimbursement represented 70% of the conventional Health Insurance rate. From now on, the support will only cover 55 to 65% of the care.
The gas price increases also on October 1, as notified by the Energy Regulatory Commission. Between September and October 2023, the variable portion excluding taxes (HT) of a typical cooking/hot water and heating consumer increases by €9.21/MWh. A level which, however, remains below that of the tariff shield in force as of June 30, 2023.
