Changed to the studio where the development staff of “Prince of Persia Time Sand Remake”, which has been postponed, worked on the original version. The release date is still undecided

Ubisoft reported on May 4th about the development status of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake”. According to it, the development studio was changed to Ubisoft Montréal. On the other hand, the indefinite postponement state still seems to remain unchanged.

“Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time” is a remake of the action-adventure game “Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time” released in 2003 (the domestic PS2 version is 2004). Set in 9th century Persia, the main character, Prince, adventures with Maharaja’s daughter Fara. In addition to the parkour action unique to the series, this work features a time manipulation system that uses the sand of time and the power of the dagger. The remake version uses the Anvil engine that was also used in the “Assassin’s Creed” series.

This work was announced in September 2020. Initially scheduled to be released in January 2021, it was postponed to March of the same year, and then postponed again. The new release date was not indicated, and it was postponed indefinitely. At the time of the first postponement, Ubisoft suggested the impact of the spread of the new coronavirus infection, saying that the reason for the postponement was “to improve the development system under unusual circumstances.”

On the other hand, he said that the decision was made after receiving a large number of opinions from fans during the second postponement. It seems that the trailer of this work, which was unveiled at the time of the announcement, had to be remade because many voices of dissatisfaction with the graphic side were heard (Related article). Since then, only the fact that development is continuing has been occasionally communicated.

It was announced that Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, which are located in India, were jointly in charge of the development of this work, but this time it has been changed to a form led by Ubisoft Montréal. This Montreal studio is also the studio that worked on the trilogy from the original version “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” to “Prince of Persia: Kenshinokokoro” and “Prince of Persia: Two Souls”.

In the future, Ubisoft Montréal will continue to develop with the deliverables of Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai in order to deliver the best gaming experience as a remake of the masterpiece. In addition, it is necessary to readjust which part of the work to focus on, which will take time. It doesn’t say when it will be released, it just says it will be released when it’s ready.

“Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake” is under development for PC / PS4 / Xbox One. Due to the postponement of the release, there may be changes in these supported platforms. I want to wait for the follow-up report.
