Chanel sets sail for Dakar

Far from the traditional Paris, London, New York or Milan Fashion Weeks, Chanel has chosen Dakar to present its 2022/23 Métiers d’art collection. This project was inspired by meetings between Virginie Viard, the artistic director of the French house, and many choreographers, directors, musicians, authors and friends of the House, fascinated by the artistic effervescence of the Senegalese capital.

Through this collection, Chanel immersed the former Courthouse in Dakar in the 1970s. Tight and flared pants, knitted sheath dresses, high waisted pants, textured tweeds and geometric embroidery, all mixed with the codes of the house of haute couture such as intertwined pearls, jeweled buttons and camellias. A parade that highlights the extraordinary craftsmanship of the house of Chanel and the work of the edging, pleating… Overflowing with color and joy, the Chanel parade was introduced in song by the talented Obree Daman, accompanied by his troupe of choristers. A moment of anthology to discover here in video.
