Champions League Quarter-Final Preview: Geneva, Rapperswil, and Växjö Lakers

2023-12-04 11:24:25

Geneva and Rapperswil play the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday. Frustrated in the National League, the two clubs must take advantage of Europe to bounce back.

In the championship, the Eagles suffered four consecutive losses: once morest Berne, Kloten, Langnau and Zurich. The St. Gallen record is hardly more encouraging. Since their 3-1 victory once morest Lugano on November 17, the Lakers have suffered five losses.

Only on the European scene, the faces are different. In the eighth, Cervenka and his gang got the better of Mannheim (3-1 and 4-1). Opposed to Munich, the Garnet turned the tide on the return by winning 3-1 following losing the first leg 3-2.

Växjö: gros morceau

But the team that awaits the Genevans in the quarter-finals is of great caliber. The Växjö Lakers are quite simply the champions of Sweden. They are in the running in the league and have not lost this season on the European scene. It will therefore be a duel of reigning champions. What can bring the Eagles back to life and remind them of their glorious spring?

Less glamorous duel

The quarter between Rapperswil and Vitkovice is less glamorous. If the Lakers are currently in 13th place in the National League, their opponent is not doing much better with their 12th place out of 14 teams. And the Czechs only reached the quarters because Lahti was penalized with a forfeit defeat due to an ice problem in the first leg.
