Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Fire Isa says that he will not accept extension of his post.
Speaking informally to journalists at the end of the new judicial year ceremony on Monday, he said, “It has been told that the tenure of all the chief justices is being extended, so I told them to do the rest if they want to do it.” But I will not accept an extension for myself.’
Justice Qazi Faiz Isa was asked by journalists on the occasion of the new judicial year that ‘Rana Sanaullah Sahib is saying that if the age of all the judges is extended, then you also agree to take the extension.’
On this, the Chief Justice said, ‘Bring Rana Sanaullah before me. In a meeting, the Prime Minister of Law Nazir Tarar was spoken to, in which Justice Mansoor Ali Shah Sahib and the Attorney General were also present, but Rana Sanaullah was not present in this meeting. If they are extending, I told them that if you want to extend the tenure of the others, then you have the option, but I will not take the extension for myself. I don’t know whether I will be alive tomorrow or not.’
Earlier, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Fire Isa, in his speech at the beginning of the new judicial year, said that every system in the world has some flaws and even in Pakistan, even if the element of malice is removed, every judge has some trend which has been built up during his professional journey of 30-40 years.
In the Supreme Court on Monday, on the occasion of the beginning of the new judicial year, the Chief Justice, explaining the performance of the last one year, said that the judge before whom the case is pending could have guessed who could benefit, every lawyer. He wanted his case to be taken to such and such a judge, but now this process has also ended.

It was the decision of the legislature that all the powers should not be vested in the Chief Justice. We appreciated and restored this law.’
Now, the Registrar of Supreme Court, not the Chief Justice, makes the cause list
The Chief Justice said in his speech that ‘in the past, people used to say that they knew what the decision would be with the formation of the bench. Today, I don’t even know what the judges on my right and left will give a decision.
‘Lawyers should review today, do they still understand the decision from the formation of the bench? If this is not the case now, let’s assume that transparency has come.
He further said that ‘in the past, the cause list was sent to the Chief Justice on Thursday for approval. I changed this, now I don’t get the cause list. Now it is the responsibility of the registrar to make the cause list.’
Justice Qazi Faiz Isa said that every judge has some tendency. It happens all over the world. People learn a lot in their 30s and 40s. In one way or another, so much experience becomes a trend. Now it’s anyone’s guess where his case goes.
“Lawyers also wanted many times to have their case before a particular judge. The reason for this was not because they had relations with the judge, but because they knew which judge’s tendency was towards which side.
‘We have also done away with this practice. The monthly cause list is released now so that the lawyers have a good opportunity to prepare. Now we will also release the two week cause list. There are queues of cases here. We have made a separate queue for cases like child extradition. People want their cases to be resolved quickly and their money can be saved.’
He said that the Chief Justice did not need a 3000 cc Mercedes-Benz. Bulletproof Land Cruisers parked in the Lahore Registry were also sent back to the government. Asked the government to sell these vehicles and buy buses for the public.
A question can be asked by writing a letter to the Supreme Court
The Chief Justice said that ‘Now, if anyone writes a letter and asks something to the Supreme Court, it is answered. The exemption granted by the Islamabad High Court on access to information has itself been removed.
He further said that ‘Critics and admirers should tell me if there has been any such decision in the world then tell me. If such a decision is not made, raise your head and say that it is about the fundamental rights of the people. Fundamental rights are equal to all, only pointless talk will not be answered. Now there is transparency, leave the sources, write a letter and tell them that it was asked and it was told.
Justice Qazi Faiz Isa further said that ‘numerous allegations are made against judges and they are not able to answer. We amended Article Five of the Supreme Judicial Council to say that a Supreme Court/High Court judge can answer if he is accused.
Last year’s election decision was important
He said that the most important decisions last year included the holding of elections.
He said that he decided the election case in 12 days without exceeding the authority. Some important decisions were also made during my time, one of them was about elections.
During the caretaker government, there was a problem on the date of the election. We resolved the date issue without exceeding our authority. After the date was fixed, we decided that there would be no interruption. But troublemakers raise trouble and then a decision came from the Lahore High Court, suspending the notification of ROs.
