With 116 votes in favor, 8 once morest and 20 abstentions, the Chamber of Deputies generally approved the initiative promoted by the Executive, called the Fire Law. The proposal is in its first constitutional process and with votes from the right, a key point for the Government was rejected.

The project, which Mayor Macarena Ripamonti alluded to with a poster at the Viña del Mar Festival, seeks to strengthen the fire prevention strategy and reduce the associated risks. The bill now returns to a committee for review and will later go to the Senate.

The main focus of the initiative is the creation of the National Forest Service, which would replace the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf), in order to strengthen the fire prevention strategy. During its processing, an indication from Deputy Diego Ibáñez (CS) was incorporated related to the limitations on the change of land use and the restoration obligations of areas affected by fires.

Specifically, in the indication, which was rejected with negative votes from the opposition, it is specified that limitations will be established on the change of land use, which will last 30 years and which must be incorporated into the territorial planning instruments.
