Chamber of Deputies discusses initiative to expand the presence of the Armed Forces in the streets

The full of Chamber of Deputies discussed this Wednesday in ordinary session the initiative that expands the participation of the Armed forces in public security tasks.

Previously, the Constitutional Points Commission endorsed the reform with 28 votes in favor, 10 against and 0 abstentions.

The new opinion proposes to reform the first paragraph of the fifth transitory of the Decree of reforms to the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, of March 2019 in matters of the National Guard.

It is also proposed to include a provision for the stake of the armed forces have a focus on respect for human rights and those of indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples and communities.

Likewise, the integration of a commission bicameralmade up of deputies and senators, to monitor compliance with the power granted to the federal Executive to assess the impact on the National Guard.
