Looking to improve the use of one of its messengers, Meta announced yesterday (20) the arrival of new features to stop Messenger calls. The application will have HD quality video, noise suppression, audio and video messages, calls and messages with Siri and a background with artificial intelligence (AI).
After incorporating new AI features over the past few months – piggybacking on Meta AI itself – Messenger users will soon gain a new call backgrounds feature with AI-generated images. The function will be located under the effects menu, during the call, and is complementary to the artificial intelligence-generated conversation backgrounds feature announced at the end of September.
In addition to the new function, the package of new features also promises to improve the overall quality of calls. New noise suppression, voice isolation and HD calls promise to make audio and video calls on the platform much clearer.

What are the potential privacy concerns associated with Meta’s new features like noise suppression and AI-generated backgrounds?
**Interview with Sarah Thompson, Tech Analyst**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Sarah. Meta recently announced a series of new features for Messenger, improving the calling experience. What do you think these upgrades mean for users?
**Sarah:** Thanks for having me! The new features, like HD video, noise suppression, and AI-generated backgrounds, are significant steps for Messenger. They suggest that Meta is taking user feedback seriously and is committed to enhancing the communication experience on their platform [[1](https://about.fb.com/news/2024/11/introducing-ai-backgrounds-noise-suppression-and-more-messenger-calling/)].
**Editor:** Interesting point! The integration of AI in generating call backgrounds is new. How do you see this impacting user interaction on Messenger?
**Sarah:** It adds a fun and personalized touch to video calls. Users can express themselves better with unique backgrounds that could reflect their mood or the occasion. However, it raises questions about privacy and data usage. How much control will users have over the AI, and what data will it potentially collect? Those concerns need to be addressed [[1](https://about.fb.com/news/2024/11/introducing-ai-backgrounds-noise-suppression-and-more-messenger-calling/)].
**Editor:** That’s a critical aspect to consider. With noise suppression and voice isolation technology also being introduced, how do you think this will affect professional users?
**Sarah:** For professionals, these features will greatly enhance the quality of remote meetings, making them clearer and more productive. Given the increasing reliance on video calls, especially in hybrid work environments, improvements in audio quality could lead to better communication outcomes [[1](https://about.fb.com/news/2024/11/introducing-ai-backgrounds-noise-suppression-and-more-messenger-calling/)].
**Editor:** Definitely, clearer communication can transform remote interactions. On a broader scale, do you think these enhancements will affect Messenger’s competitive edge against other messaging platforms?
**Sarah:** Absolutely, particularly if they can successfully integrate these AI features while ensuring user privacy and data security. With competition from apps like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, these improvements could make Messenger more attractive for both casual and business users. It will be crucial for Meta to market these features effectively to gain traction [[1](https://about.fb.com/news/2024/11/introducing-ai-backgrounds-noise-suppression-and-more-messenger-calling/)].
**Editor:** That’s a fascinating perspective, Sarah. Now, as we look at these developments, how do you think users will respond to the AI-generated backgrounds? Will they embrace it, or could there be hesitation?
**Sarah:** It will be a mixed bag. Some users will likely embrace the novelty and fun of it, while others may view it as unnecessary or intrusive. It really depends on individual preferences when it comes to personalization versus practicality. This could spark a debate on where the line is drawn between enhancing user experience and complicating it with too many features [[1](https://about.fb.com/news/2024/11/introducing-ai-backgrounds-noise-suppression-and-more-messenger-calling/)].
**Editor:** Thank you for your insights, Sarah! It seems that while Meta is innovating, the community’s feedback will be vital as these features roll out.
**Sarah:** Exactly! Engaging with users will be key to refining these features and ensuring they truly meet their needs.
