Darya Safai has never concealed her hostility towards the Islamic veil. Activist for women’s rights, the Belgian-Iranian does not mince her words in front of communications on the hijab.

On Sunday, Federal MP N-VA criticized the campaign displayed in the streets of Roeselare (Roeselare, West Flanders) at length. The posters show a veiled woman carrying the following message: “Is my headscarf preventing you from talking to me?”.

For the elected nationalist, this message aims to “blame the Flemings and qualify them as ‘non-inclusive’” while excluding “the discriminatory nature of the veil”. According to Darya Safai, who fled the Iranian ayatollahs’ regime, “the Flemish [sont] open people, who did their best to welcome me to their country and make them discover their culture and their values, which are now mine”.

‘You are asking the killer to investigate impartially’: MP Darya Safai and Hadja Lahbib cut a lock of their hair in support of Iran

”According to our values, everyone is free to wear what they want, but some clothes have a symbolic meaning. Anyone who chooses clothing that discriminates against women is choosing to distance themselves from men. The philosophy behind the headscarf does not recognize any freedom and equality for women,” she continues. “And just because you disagree with that philosophy doesn’t mean you’re going to discriminate against people because of it. Perhaps the discriminatory philosophy of this piece of fabric should be thought about a bit more, instead of blaming the Flemings again.”

His message, retweeted and liked several hundred times, provoked many reactions on Facebook and Twitter.
