Challenging Schedule and Travel Demands for India in the 2023 Cricket World Cup

ICC has announced the schedule of cricket world cup to be held in India this year. The World Cup will be held from October 5 to November 19. World Cup matches are held in 10 places like Dharamshala, Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru. India faces a challenging schedule in the 2023 World Cup. India’s league stage matches are scheduled at nine different venues. That means India will have to play all the matches on the run. Interestingly, no other team has this situation.

If India reaches the semi-finals and then the final, it will cover a distance of 9700 km for 11 games in 42 days. While 8400 km in 34 days may not seem like much, the Indian players finish their match at 11 pm and have to travel by flight every third day. After 100 over games it gets very tiring.

When the Indian team plays on home soil, the team usually travels on charter flights. Significantly reduces the length and distance of the trip, but business class is not always available. So small leg space will make it difficult for fast bowlers. India is the only team to play league matches in each of the nine cities.

β€œIn the case of the Indian team, none of the nine associations can deny them an opportunity to watch their stars perform. “You have to accommodate every member association, so it’s a tough decision,” said a BCCI official.

With a shorter gap of three days, India will have less time to practice. Most of the sessions will be optional keeping in mind the physical condition of the players. In short, the All India Tour is about India.
