Lack of employees central challenge – LH Mikl-Leitner emphasizes close partnership between state and economy as a success factor for the blue-yellow business location

St. Polten (OTS) 54 percent of Lower Austrian companies have permanent vacancies, 44 percent of all companies with a shortage of workers have to turn down orders and customers. A further 34% of these establishments stated that they had to reduce their offer and 27% reduced their opening hours. Against the background of these current study results by KMU Forschung Austria, Wolfgang Ecker, President of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKNÖ), placed the issue of labor shortages at the center of his speech at the WKNÖ Economic Parliament in WIFI St. Pölten – and called for compulsory schooling to be further developed into compulsory education. Such compulsory education should ensure “that all apprentices have a solid basic knowledge right from the start,” says Ecker. “And our companies can thus concentrate on the actual apprenticeship training.” Because the training of apprentices is a great advantage for companies. In this way, they can ensure that those employees who suit the company are won over early on.

“Where work is neglected in a society, prosperity and social security are also neglected”

Furthermore, Ecker pushed for measures such as “qualified immigration for people who are motivated and willing to work” and incentives for longer work in old age, as well as for the change from part-time to full-time. In addition, the WKNÖ President is demanding an extension of the tax exemption for overtime. Ecker: “Because one thing is clear: anyone who voluntarily wants to work longer must not be punished.” come. And where work is neglected in a society, sooner or later prosperity and social security will also be neglected.”

Governor Mikl-Leitner for an unlimited relaxation of the procurement rules

The close partnership between the state and industry, between the state and the Chamber of Commerce has made Lower Austria strong in the past and will also help to get through the current crises, emphasized Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner in her speech to the delegates of the Economic Parliament. “Lower Austria is the region in Austria with the highest household income, the greatest purchasing power and the lowest risk of poverty. But all of this is no coincidence – there is hard work, dedication, commitment from many top performers in our companies behind it. We say thank you for that and we want to continue to provide the best framework conditions together with the Economic Chamber of Lower Austria in the future.” Like WKNÖ President Ecker, the governor also spoke in favor of the rapid implementation of the federal energy cost subsidy for our companies, the extension of the threshold value ordinance and relief for those who want to work longer and more. “Here, what is needed is the ‘abolition of pension contributions’ for people who want to work in retirement, or the expansion of tax-free overtime. Both serve to make extra work worthwhile – and both are recognition and motivation at the same time.”

New WKNÖ motto: “WE COMPANY”

During the presentation of the WKNÖ annual report, WKNÖ director Johannes Schedlbauer referred, among other things, to more than 200,000 personal WKNÖ service contacts in the last year, numerous initiatives by the WKNÖ and the social partners for teaching, which are also reflected in the increasing number of apprentices, the WKNÖ regionality campaign # ichkauflokal, which meanwhile has more than 2,000 partner companies, or the “Gründerland Niederösterreich” initiative set up together with the state of Lower Austria, which accompanies around 8,000 founders into entrepreneurship every year.

Under its new motto “WE COMPANY” and the slogan “Thinking regarding the future and setting an example”, the Economic Chamber of Lower Austria will continue to do everything in its power for all Lower Austrian companies, emphasized Ecker and Schedlbauer and added: “Because it’s our companies, the jobs secure and create quality of life and added value in our regions.”
