Seven workers were injured after a structure at the Chalco-Santa Martha Trolleybus construction site collapsed on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred within the facilities of the Modal Transfer Center (Cetram) at the Santa Martha location on line A of the Mexico City Railway Metro in the territory of the Iztapalapa mayor’s office.
Emergency forces from the capital of the country went to the scene and rescued five men and two women, all of them workers in the construction of the new mass transportation line that goes from this point to the Mexican municipality of Chalco.
The incident generated a strong mobilization of emergency forces that carried out maneuvers to free the workers and treat the injured.
The capital police in a first report indicated that two of the injured were transferred to the Magdalena de las Salinas Hospital and another to Social Security Clinic 53, located just two kilometers away, in the municipality of La Paz.
It was established that the employees who required hospitalization were identified as Gionanni “N”, 27 years old, Guadalupe “N”, 34 years old, and Brian César “N”, 30 years old.
The other four injured were treated by Rescue and Emergency Medical paramedics and it was reported that they refused to be transferred to a hospital after their medical evaluation as multiple injuries.
Videos circulate on social networks of how other workers carry out work to rescue their colleagues who were left under the structure formed with dozens of rods that formed an elevated structure and which had not yet been poured with cement.
Firefighters from Mexico City arrived at Ignacio Zaragoza Avenue in the Santa Martha Acatitla neighborhood in Iztapalapa to carry out the rescue and Red Cross paramedics are providing first aid.
Civil Protection of the state of Mexico and rescue of the municipalities of Nezahualcóyotl and La Paz, remained waiting, after the CDMX authorities considered that their intervention was not necessary.
The new Trolleybus line will connect Santa Martha with Chalco and with the line that runs from Ermita Zaragoza to the Constitución Metro south of the Iztapalapa mayor’s office.
