Chajarí: 9 participating teams will compete in the national locro contest

Participating groups must be made up of three people (one cook and two assistants). Registrations closed on Tuesday, July 2nd. They were received at the offices of the Culture Department, on the ground floor of the Cultural Center. There, the registration form had to be completed and the regulations collected.
The event, which aims to promote the best local stew in the city, will take place this Tuesday, July 9th, starting at 8 a.m. on Paseo de la Vía, in the area of ​​the Railway Station. The Municipality will provide gloves, caps and white aprons, and will give each team the necessary ingredients to make this traditional “steak”, will install safety fences, a board with trestles and will provide the firewood to be used. The groups must provide the utensils, tools, kitchen equipment and pots, and define the disposal of waste (organic and inorganic).
Each team will have 4 hours to prepare the locro, and at 12 noon they must present a decorated dish for tasting and verdict by the jury, which will be made up of three local chefs: Matías Repond, Marianela Pizzio, and Francisco Torres. Creativity, preparation, use of artisanal ingredients, development of the preparation, presentation, harmony of the ingredients used, compliance with the established times, and flavor will be evaluated.
The award ceremony will be attended by Mayor Marcelo Borghesan, Vice Mayor Fabiola Fochesatto Brunini and Director of Culture Luciano Percara. The winning team will receive a cast iron pot, provided by the Hotel and Gastronomic Business Federation of the Argentine Republic (FEHGRA), along with a symbolic prize consisting of a wooden ladle made by local artisan Damián Ayala. Portions of all the locros prepared will then be put on sale at the popular price of $2,500, serving without prior reservation, in order of arrival, and the proceeds will go to the participants. Each competing trio will be given ingredients for the preparation of 50 portions, but they may expand this amount with their own ingredients.
The traditional national locro contest has been held every year, organized by the Government of Chajarí. In 2021, the winners of this contest were “La Peña de Boca Juniors”; in 2022, the winners were the members of the Club Deportivo 1º de Mayo; and in 2023, the team made up of Carolina Tisocco, Laura Mármol and Andrés Roncaglia won the first prize.
