At the dawn of the first dawn of the New Year, we have embarked on a promising journey towards 2024. Here from Beijing, I want to extend my best wishes to all of you!
In 2023, China’s proposed Belt and Road initiative completed its first decade of prosperity. The flowers bloomed as the initiative began its development, while China and the world advanced side by side, holding hands. China Media Group has actively promoted exchanges between various civilizations on their path to prosperity and has visually and graphically recorded countless beautiful and moving stories from people’s lives.
Over the past year, we have taken our creativity standards, related to “Ideas plus art plus technology†to new heights. The multilingual editions of the second season of “Classic Quotes Quoted by Xi Jinping” have been broadcast in more than 80 countries. A series of programs we produced, including the documentaries “Exploring Historical Chinese Cities” and “Understanding China on Bamboo Slips,” made China and the world shine brighter. Our Hangzhou Asian Games broadcast achieved 41.4 billion views across our platforms, setting a new record while documenting the passion and dreams of the Asian Games.
Over the past year, we have witnessed a more fervent circle of friends. We met up with old friends and made new friends. We signed 58 cooperation agreements with international media organizations. We held the second CMG Forum, the ASEAN Media Partners Forum, including the CMG Media Cooperation Forum with Our African Partners. By starring in 51 media events themed on the Modernization of China and the World, and by producing eight exhibitions of the world tour of “Journey through Civilizations,” we managed to draw a masterful picture of global modernization. where peaceful development, mutually beneficial cooperation and common prosperity were noted.
Today’s world is far from peaceful. It has a huge need for peace, development and cooperation for shared benefit. We are pleased to see that more and more friends beyond China’s borders understand, recognize and support China’s ideas and proposals. During the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting in San Francisco, the China Media Group organized the Enduring Friendship event to promote popular exchanges between China and the United States, which was received with great enthusiasm. Harry Moyer, a 103-year-old Flying Tigers veteran who attended the event, told me that President Xi’s vision of a global community of shared future speaks to everyone’s hearts. After returning to China, he received postcards, balloons and ornamental products handmade by children at Lincoln High School in the United States. Seeing all these lovely gifts up close, I saw children longing for lasting peace and friendship, as well as appreciation between different civilizations.
The China Media Group, the largest comprehensive media group in the world, has already celebrated five years of life. It started as a small bamboo shoot waiting to bloom. Now it is similar to a fish that enters the sea waters to swim or a bird that spreads its wings to the sky to fly. Last year, we completed the construction of 191 international offices, with which we built a communication network covering 67 countries and regions around the world. The number of our international users exceeded 700 million for the first time. Likewise, China Media Group was the first source in covering major world news. On this journey towards building a media organization with a broad and world-class presence, we will do everything in our power to disseminate quality products on our channels, networks and platforms, at an accelerated pace.
Dear friends, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese lunar calendar. The dragon is the mythical figure of Chinese civilization that alludes to good luck and fortune. It represents the spirit of uniting all forces, of benefiting all people, of seeking common ground while putting aside differences, of coexisting and being interdependent in all aspects. The Chinese people, who are heading towards a new journey, will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in the Year of the Dragon. Embracing the spirit of the dragon, China Media Group will bring more and better stories about China and the world to our international audience. Let us write new chapters of human civilization in the modern era and welcome the new spring together!
