The story of master director Im Kwon-taek and Chaeryeong couple is revealed.
TV CHOSUN’s special documentary, ‘The Unfinished Movie, Im Kwon-taek’, aired on the 11th at 7:50 pm, tells the story of director Im Kwon-taek, a master who has led Korean film history for 60 years.
Director Lim Kwon-taek has portrayed the portrait of Korea through films such as ‘Seopyeonje’, ‘Chihwaseon’, and ‘The General’s Son’. He established himself as a master by achieving great achievements such as achieving 1 million viewers for the first time in Korea, winning the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival, and winning the ‘Golden Bear Award’ for the first time as an Asian director.
Behind Im Kwon-taek, there is a strong supporter and family. In particular, her wife, Chaeryeong, has always been a supportive force for her husband. The two met for the first time in a work as actors and directors and got married following a long secret relationship. Even though Chaeryeong was an actress who was loved enough to be seen in her commercials, following her marriage, she gave up her life as an actress and has been her husband’s manager for 49 years. Director Lim Kwon-taek praised her husband for helping her husband diligently from her styling to managing her schedule, saying, “Even now, her wife’s side dishes are the most delicious” and boasted of their affectionate husband and wife relationship.
Chaeryeong’s wife, following being scammed with a large amount of stock, said, “I can’t live. What should I do?” It was Im Kwon-taek, the husband of Im Kwon-taek, who embraced her without hesitation, saying to him, “All you have to do is go to her country and buy a house from her.” Chaeryeong expressed her sincerity, saying, “I am so grateful that she didn’t say a word even when she lost money.”
Director Lim Kwon-tae said that if the first half of his life was for movies, he is investing more time for his family from now on. In particular, it is his granddaughter who has captivated his heart these days. As a granddaughter was born in the family, he was reborn as a ‘granddaughter’s stupid grandfather’ in addition to a ‘normal husband’ and ‘blunt father’. He expressed his affection for her granddaughter, saying, “I have authority and status, and I can put everything down!”
