Co-built with user representatives and partner associations in the health and social field, the user center (MDU) of CH Charles Perrens, in Bordeaux, first opened in 2022, in an itinerant format. Equipped with a cargo bike, the facilitator goes to meet patients in the establishment’s care units. The opening of this house on May 30, 2023 completes this innovative system.
Entirely renovated, the user house of CH Charles Perrens, in Bordeaux, consists of a main living room, two offices dedicated to user representatives and partner associations and a co-working space. Its access is free, anonymous and free. It is open to anyone wishing to learn regarding mental health and the care offered by the establishment. Thus, this house is planned as a central space to present to users the functioning of the hospital and to meet legal, associative, cultural and sporting partners.

As highlighted in its 2020-2024 establishment project in a specific section dedicated to users and their carers, the ambition of CH Charles Perrens is to structure an active policy of partnership with user representatives and associations, in order to improve the conditions of reception and care of patients and promote support for their relatives. Users will be able to benefit from a point of access to the law which connects patients with legal professionals, individual and collective hotlines, coffee-debates and theme days led by the 25 partner associations.
The MDU is led by a socio-cultural facilitator accompanied by civic services, and a coordinating health manager. Ultimately, the ambition is to expand the team by recruiting a peer health mediator.
