Peking (ots/PRNewswire) – The peoples of China and Vietnam are the basis and lifeline of the friendship of both countries. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCP) and Chinese president, said this in an official article published in the Nhan Dan Newspaper of Vietnam on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Xi Jinping and Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, met in Hanoi with youth representatives from both countries as well as people who have made special contributions to Sino-Vietnamese friendship.
Both stressed that the peoples of both countries are the basis of Sino-Vietnamese friendship and youth shape the future of this friendship.
Promote youth exchange
In his article, Xi Jinping called for promoting Chinese language teaching and expanding cooperation in vocational training, health and sports, thereby contributing to the success of important events such as the China-Vietnamese People’s Forum and the China-Vietnamese Youth Meeting. The aim is to strengthen mutual understanding and bring both peoples closer together, especially in the younger generation.
“We should strengthen friendly cooperation and exchange among each other. A step in this direction is mutual exchange via central media channels, think tanks, cultural and tourism institutions, publishers as well as radio, film and television,” he added.
Such youth exchange events also took place at the University of Hanoi in Vietnam. In November, almost 400 young people from China and Vietnam sang together classic film and television songs that are very popular in both countries.
The university also partnered with a Chinese publisher to set up a bookstore where Vietnamese students can learn more regarding Chinese culture.
Xi Jinping has high expectations for young people and has repeatedly urged them to realize their dreams and take responsibility. On Wednesday, the Chinese president also expressed hope that young people will take the lead in shaping China-Vietnamese friendship.
Promote traditional friendship
China has long been Vietnam’s largest trading partner. Vietnam, on the other hand, is China’s fourth largest trading partner worldwide.
With the start of cross-border freight train traffic between China and Vietnam and the Smart Port program, the two countries are growing ever faster together at their border crossings. Vietnam exports large quantities of agricultural products to China, including lychees, duran fruits and dragon fruits.
The Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro line in Hanoi, which has now been used almost 20 million times and offers Hanoi residents a convenient way to get around, was once once more built by a Chinese company.
Xi Jinping has high expectations for young people in China and Vietnam. They should play an important role in expanding Chinese-Vietnamese friendship. In his opinion, the shared future of both countries has great strategic importance.
Xi Jinping also urged young people to commit to the development of the Asia-Pacific region and make their contribution to lasting peace in the region.
“I hope that the young people of both countries will be pioneers of human progress and contribute to building a society with a shared future for all humanity,” Xi Jinping told youth representatives.
