WASHINGTON, April 12 /PRNewswire/ — CGTN UN opens “Journey Through Civilizations” exhibit at UN Headquarters
The exhibition “Journey through Civilizations” organized by the CCTV United Nations Bureau is currently running at the United Nations. The exhibition will be on view until July 7th. On June 29th at the UN the official opening ceremony.
Shen Haixiong, President of Chinese Media Group, gave a video address at the opening ceremony. “Chinese civilization promotes inclusion, development through dialogue and mutual learning with others,” he said. He also stressed that China Media Group will take seriously the media’s mission to strengthen international cultural exchanges and promote dialogue around the world .
“As Secretary-General Guterres said, diversity is an asset, not a threat. Both China and the UN have always been advocates of the diversity of civilizations. With this exhibition at the United Nations, we show that we strongly support this diversity and the work of the United Nations in the relevant areas,” said Ambassador Zhang Jun, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, in his address at the ceremony.
Miguel Ángel Moratinos, the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, explained that in Chinese, civilization is a combination of two words: culture and enlightenment. He emphasized that enlightenment is an important part of civilization and said that we want to be enlightened to address problems in our society.
Hundreds of guests, including UN officials and ambassadors, attended the opening ceremony.
Renowned artists from China, the United States and Canada presented the traditional techniques and arts of China in hands-on performances, including an interactive ear acupuncture demonstration, a tea ceremony, calligraphy, a guqin musical performance and a poetry reading.
For the first time, the UN has integrated a high-tech virtual game program into a traditional exhibition. High-tech video walls at the exhibition will provide a breathtaking experience showcasing beautiful images of UNESCO World Heritage sites – Mount Huangshan and the Dazu Rock Sculptures.
“Journey through Civilizations” is sponsored by the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, the Sino-American Friendship Association, and the UNSRC’s Chinese Book Club.
Through a variety of exhibitions, the event offers Member States the opportunity to showcase the richness of their cultures, arts, traditions and historical narratives.
