CF Montreal’s journey in the League Cup is over.

Following a 3-0 Pumas victory over DC United on Saturday, Hernan Losada’s men find themselves mathematically unable to join the Mexican side even in the tiebreaker. Montreal therefore finished third in its group while only the first two clubs moved on to the next stage.

Montreal defeated the Pumas on penalties in Game 1 before losing to DC in Game 2.

The Pumas put enormous pressure on the DC as César Huerta found the back of the net in the sixth minute. A few minutes before half-time, Nathan Silva delivered a hard blow with a net in the 42nd minute. Back after the break, the visitors put the game out of DC’s reach thanks to Gabriel Fernández’s foot in the 52nd minute.

Montreal now finds itself on leave until August 20 when it takes on Toronto. In the meantime, the League Cup will know its conclusion.

Other matches:

In other games on Saturday, Cruz Azul defeated Atlanta United 5-4 on a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation. Charlotte defeated Necaxa 4-1. Orlando defeated Santos Laguna 3-2 and Juarez beat Austin 3-1.
