We often hear this old adage from the 13th century: “The clothes do not make the monk.” Maybe not, but appearance is an insidious source of judgment, especially at work. More or less consciously, we therefore strive to adapt our appearance to our environment, to the point of sometimes feeling a form of social pressure. This comes at a cost, and now a name to describe this phenomenon: the aesthetic load. We have already become familiar for several years with the “mental load”, carried by adults in the context of the daily management of the home, which affects 8 out of 10 women according to an Ipsos study. But what regarding this other, less theorized charge? It is mainly defined by the time, money and thought given to taking care of oneself.
