César Almirón makes his Olympic debut and will compete in the repechage

Asuncion, IP Agency.- César Almirón, the last Paraguayan representative in competition, made his debut at the Olympic Games in the 200-meter athletics race.

With a time of 20.87 seconds, Almirón finished 6th in his heat and 38th overall, so he will go to the repechage this Tuesday, August 6 at 06:30, Paraguayan time.

The current 35th in the world rankings will seek to improve his personal time of 20.41 seconds and finish in a good position in his first participation in the Olympic Games.

With this, Paraguayan athletes end their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In athletics, Xenia Herbert also made her debut in the biggest international competition in the 100-meter flat category and finished 60th overall.

Other individual representatives were in rowing, where Javier Insfrán finished 17th and achieved the best position for Paraguayan rowing at the Olympic Games. Alejandra Alonso, in women’s singles, finished 19th.

In judo, the surprise was Gabriela Narváez, who finished among the top 8 and obtained the second Olympic diploma for Paraguay. In golf, meanwhile, Fabrizio Zanotti finished 33rd overall and among the top 3 in South America.

Finally, in swimming, Luana Alonso, in 100-meter butterfly, and Matheo Mateos, in 200-meter medley, also represented Paraguay and finished their events among the best 29 and 20 in the world, respectively.

In team sports, the U23 football team lost on penalties in the quarter-finals against Egypt, and was among the top 8 teams for Paraguay’s third Olympic diploma in its history. In beach volleyball, the duo of Giuliana Poletti and Michelle Valiente also made their Olympic debut, although they were unable to advance from the group stage.
