CES2023 AMD showed the “killer” of Apple’s M1 processors. The chip is 30% faster and laptops last up to 30 hours

AMD has unveiled new Ryzen 7040 laptop processors at CES 2023 that will compete with the M1 Pro chip and the yet-to-be-released M2.

The flagship AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS processor has 8 cores, 16 threads and a frequency of 5.2 GHz. The company claims that it is 30% faster than the M1 Pro.

In multi-processor workloads, the Ryzen 9 7940HS is 34% faster than the M1 Pro and 20% faster than the M2 in AI-related workloads. How the results compared with the M2, which has not yet been released, AMD did not specify.

All Ryzen 7040 series processors are made on 4nm process technology. The company claims that ultrabooks with Ryzen 7040 will run for 30 hours when playing video.

The Ryzen 7040 chips will be available to laptop manufacturers in March 2023. [MacRumors]
