CES 2024 featured yet another novelty presented to the public in the form of a concept. This is the S-A2one eVTOL and Supernal which can carry four passengers in addition to the pilot. For those who don’t know, the company is part of the Hyundai Motor group and its CEO, Jaiwon Shin, commented on the machine:

From the beginning, Supernal has been on a mission to create the right product and the right market at the right time. The introduction of the S-A2 demonstrates our unwavering commitment to fulfilling this mission with a safe and efficient vehicle design that provides a clear path to market entry. By leveraging our talented team of 600 people, Hyundai Motor Group’s vast technical and business capabilities and trusted aviation suppliers around the world, Supernal is ready to deliver a new era of flight.

Regarding its main features, the electric vehicle has a V-tail and was developed to cruise at 120 miles per hour at an altitude of 1,500 feet. In addition, it has a distributed electric propulsion architecture and eight inclined rotors. It is also worth highlighting that this equipment promises to operate without making so much noise.

As announced by Supernal, the vertical takeoff and landing phases should generate a noise of 65 dB, while horizontal navigation will generate 45 dB. Ben Diachun is the company’s technology director and also spoke regarding the product:

Supernal’s product concept vehicle is the result of the creativity and hard work of our world-class team. The S-A2 is designed to take full advantage of emerging electric powertrain advancements that will define the next generation of aviation. From here, we will develop this concept into a revolutionary commercial product.

One point that stands out in this concept, according to Supernal, is sustainability, as its development has this issue as one of its priorities, in addition to the safety and comfort of passengers. For those interested, the vehicle is on display at CES in the “Supernal Vertiport”. Luc Donckerwolke is President, Chief Design Officer and Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group and commented:

The S-A2 is a true representation of ‘auto meets aero’. Leveraging the expertise of Supernal’s leading aerospace engineers and Hyundai Motor Group’s world-renowned automotive designers to create a human-centered design that maximizes passenger experience and safety.
