CES 2023 – These connected glasses from TCL can translate your interlocutors in real time

The manufacturer TCL showed at CES its brand new augmented reality glasses. An object with capacities, on paper, impressive.

Whether augmented reality, virtual reality or mixed, 2023 is likely to be a busy year. TCL wants to show what it is capable of in this area and is presenting its RayNeo X2 glasses at the CES show in Las Vegas, which offer great promise. Will we ever see them on the market?

Glasses with Micro LED display

According to the Chinese manufacturer, specializing in television screens, these augmented reality glasses have “a subtle and light body for everyday wear”. Difficult to agree seeing the size of these glasses, which are not yet equipped with chips AR2 Gen 1 announced by Qualcomm. While waiting to see the first products designed with this chipset aimed at radically reducing their size, we will have to be content with these RayNeo X2s. But these are not ashamed of it, far from it if we are to believe the feedback from people who have been able to try it on the tech show.

The Chinese firm is even introducing Micro LED technology to connected glasses, which are also equipped with Qualcomm’s XR2 chip. A chip already present in virtual reality headsets like the Pico 4 or the Meta Quest 2. This Micro LED display offers a color contrast ratio of 100,000:1 as well as a brightness of 1000 nits according to the first information.

All-purpose glasses

TCL’s AR glasses seem to be able, or at least willing, to do it all. One of the most impressive features is its real-time translation option. When a person speaks a foreign language, the microphones on the glasses can detect the language and the system then offers an almost instantaneous translation. The device also has a “Smart GPS” function that can superimpose on the glasses the path to take to reach your destination.

It will even be possible to listen to music, the glasses being able to diffuse discreetly, via the branches, sounds coming from a connected device such as a smartphone. Finally, a camera has been installed inside the RayNeo X2 to capture videos and photos, thanks to the touch control screen on the sides. TCL first makes its AR glasses available to developers so that they can bring something to make them usable on a daily basis. We will therefore still have to wait before seeing them arrive, perhaps one day, on the market.

The brand also took the opportunity to announce that his NXTWear S glasseswhich we were able to try at the IFA last year, will arrive in Europe in the first quarter for 499 euros.
