CES 2023: But no QD-OLED from TCL this year?

We had to CES 2023 reported that TCL plans to launch its own QD-OLED this year. Now the company is rowing back – the details had been published by mistake.

2023 but without QD-OLED from TCL

Die QD-OLED-Technology is Samsung’s answer to LG’s self-illuminating OLED panel. With the Samsung S95B the first television with the technology was launched in 2022, followed in the same year Sony A95K. Both televisions convinced us in the test lab with their excellent picture: The Sony model is even at the top of our list of the best televisions:

The message, that with TCL a new player should enter the field of QD-OLEDs, was more than welcome – especially since the launch was announced for this year. TCL is known for offering TVs for smaller budgets. While QD-OLEDs are among the best TV models we’ve tested, they still cost too much to make most people’s money worth it.

Too bad that TCL is now taking back the news. So reported digitaltrends.comto have learned in a telephone conversation from a TCL spokesman that the details of the QD-OLED plans had been shared in error.

The future for QD OLED

So at least for this year we must fulfill our dreams of a super cheap TCL TV buried once more with QD OLED panel. However, the future of the technology is by no means bleak. Samsung Display seems to be catching up on the lead that LG Display has in panel production. The panels can now also be produced in a third size, 77 inches, which was previously not possible.

Die new Samsung TV The S95C and S90C will each come in three sizes: 55 inches, 65 inches and 77 inches. There are already first signsthat a Philips TV with a QD OLED panel is in the works. We also expect new QD OLEDs from Sony, even if the company surprisingly this year didn’t take TVs to CES. Of course, if TCL does share details regarding its QD OLED plans, we’ll let you know.

TCL: Not only QD-OLED, but also OLED in the planning?

As a small digression: TCL also had OLED panels at the CES. As HIFI.DE YouTube host Vitus tells you in his video directly from the trade fair, they are still a long way from being ready for the market. These are inkjet-printed panels from JOLED. This production technique should make even smaller pixels possible than even LG Display can produce at the moment.

Have you been looking forward to a TCL QD OLED TV? Or would the model not have been an option for you anyway? Write it in the comments!
