Cervical cancer: The creation of screening and diagnostic units underlined

The creation of units specializing in the screening and diagnosis of cervical cancer through health establishments was highlighted on Saturday in Constantine by participants in the Information and Awareness Days on this type of cancer, organized by the local public health establishment (EPSP) Bachir Mentouri. The recommendations of specialists and expert advisors in the health sector aim to improve the life expectancy of people with this cancer by ensuring early diagnosis and screening with the aim of protecting people from the onset of the disease, indicated to the APS the head doctor of the polyclinic Moussa Amrouche of the city Boumerzoug, Soraya Sifi.

Cervical cancer is more common in women, aged between 25 and 65 years of whom the majority of cases (over 90%) are due to the human papillomavirus (HPV) viral infection and a sexually transmitted disease, explained Dr Sifi. People suffering from this disease must benefit from appropriate regular monitoring and medical, psychological and social support for better control of risk factors and this through the mobilization of multidisciplinary teams composed in particular of oncologists and psychologists. , said for his part, Mourad Zoghlani, director of the EPSP Bachir Mentouri, who insisted on the need to combine efforts for the development of cervical cancer screening and diagnosis units in the wilaya where only one unit of this type is currently at the polyclinic of the Boumerzoug city.

As a reminder, the EPSP Bachir Mentouri currently covers 19 health structures located in the capital of the wilaya, including 10 polyclinics, 2 treatment rooms, an intermediate treatment center for drug addicts and one intended for cross-border health care located at the airport. Mohammad Boudiaf.
