At the Casa UV Molino de San Roque, students of the sixth semester of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Veracruzana (UV) who are taking the educational experiences (EE) Special Pathology and Clinical Cycle of the First Level of Attentionheld an awareness day for women with an active sexual life, to whom they highlighted the importance of prevention through Pap smears.

They made known the importance of every woman with an active sexual life performing this examination periodically (once a year), in which a sample of cells is taken from the cervix of the womb and analyzed microscopically, in order to detect the existence of any abnormality that might lead to serious health problems.

They explained that the Pap smear, also known as vaginal cytology, makes it possible to detect early changes in cells that can lead to cervical cancer; the test can be combined with another to detect the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a risk factor for Ours.

At the Casa UV Molino de San Roque, students from the Faculty of Medicine raised awareness regarding the timely detection of cervical cancer

Martha Leticia Zamudio Aguilar, an academic and one of the leaders of the group that gave the talk, said that it is important for women to know the risk factors for the disease, and the importance of detecting it in a timely manner to reduce cases of death.

He said that the Faculty of Medicine has a Primary Health Care Unit, focused mainly on the timely detection of Ours; He pointed out that they have worked for more than 10 years in this line and seek to strengthen the relationship with the population through the UV Houses.

The specialist in pathology pointed out that if the woman has an abnormal secretion, a different smell, stains her underwear with blood or has pain when having sexual intercourse, go immediately to the doctor for a timely diagnosis; she recommended the use of condoms in her partner to avoid an unwanted pregnancy and prevent any sexually transmitted infection. Also, get the HPV vaccine.

Hansy Cortés Jiménez, a teacher at the EE Clinical Cycle of the First Level of Care, stressed that it is important for students to participate in this type of activity because it gives them the opportunity to have a first contact with the population, given that when working in a health center health will manage the priority programs of the Ministry of Health.

“In addition, it helps them to strengthen the skills that every doctor should have to solve the problems that arise at the first level of care, and avoid going to a second level where the expenses are higher for both the State and the public. patients and their families”, said the academic.
