Ceres and Shell Sign Electrolyzer Agreement for Green Hydrogen Production | RYT9

  • A megawatt demonstration electrolyzer will be installed in Bangalore. india
  • Aims to produce low-cost green hydrogen to reduce industrial carbon emissions

Ceres Power, the world leader in fuel cell and electrochemical technology. is pleased to announce that The company has signed an agreement with Shell to deliver a megawatt-scale demonstration of Solid Oxide Electrolyser (SOEC) in 2023.

Shell and Ceres Collaborate to Use SOEC Technology to Deliver Green Hydrogen at Low Cost and High Efficiency It is now widely regarded as a reliable way to reduce carbon emissions in the hard-to-find part of today’s fossil fuel-dependent energy systems.

Ceres aims to produce hydrogen with an efficiency increase of approximately 20% compared to other technologies, in the mid 80 to 90% range, a level where waste heat can be used in industrial processes to increase. higher efficiency

Ceres is investing £100 million in developing SOEC technology with the goal of bringing hydrogen production costs to $1.5/kg by 2025, while the deal with Shell aligns with Ceres’ business strategy. as well as paving the way for commercial distribution and development in new markets.

The system will be installed at Shell’s Technology Research and Development Center in Bangalore. india And the hydrogen produced will be used in industrial processes within the center. The center is a key part of Shell developing innovation and technology to provide cleaner energy.

Phil Caldwell, CEO of Ceres “Today’s announcement of our agreement with Shell is a significant step forward for Ceres. This partnership reinforces our business strategy. and it reflects the potential of SOEC technology to produce low-cost, green hydrogen to reduce industrial carbon emissions with the scale and speed necessary to achieve net zero carbon goals.”

Yuri Sebregts, Executive Vice President Technology, Shell “Shell’s Powering Progress strategy has clearly defined goals to become a leader in the energy transition. and accelerating the move towards a net zero-emission energy business by 2050, where hydrogen is a key part of this strategy. Ceres has a unique SOEC technology. and has the potential to produce hydrogen at the best cost and efficiency. Piloting and collaborating with Ceres is a breakthrough in bringing this promising technology to industrial applications.”
