ALGIERS – The Commission for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CEREFE) suggests the use of a new innovative air conditioning solution using natural gas, allowing energy savings of up to 90%.
In a press release published on Saturday, CEREFE recommends setting up, within the framework of the National Energy Management Program, appropriate incentive mechanisms to generate demand and promote the use of natural gas air conditioning “GHP” (Gas Heat Pump) in Algeria, particularly in the tertiary sector, through fiscal and parafiscal measures and a dedicated subsidy regime.
The institution explains this initiative by the abundance of natural gas resources, emphasizing that “natural gas air conditioning has already proven itself in our country with more than 350 successful installations in various sectors such as hospitality, clinics, administrations and banks.
“Substantial savings of up to 90% might be achieved on the energy bill of user sectors, thus demonstrating the considerable financial potential of this technology and thus reinforcing its economic attractiveness,” affirms the same source.
In addition, the energy saving potential and the efficiency of these processes might be confirmed through the visits of CEREFE experts to the places where the gas air conditioning equipment was installed.
Upstream, air conditioning powered by natural gas also presents “a major advantage” in terms of saving natural gas, indicates CEREFE, specifying that “thanks to its increased energy efficiency, it can allow significant savings on gas consumption natural, thus contributing to a more efficient use of the country’s energy resources.
By using an innovative combination of technologies, this type of air conditioning makes it possible to provide heating, cooling and domestic hot water “efficiently and economically”, assures CEREFE.
“Its operation, based on the recovery of heat from natural sources + air + and its coupling with a primary energy source, natural gas, LPG or hydrogen, make it a solution that is both reliable and environmentally friendly. the environment,” he said.
According to CEREFE, while awaiting the development and technological maturity of air conditioning systems based on renewable and solar energy in particular, this innovative solution not only makes it possible to reduce dependence on electric air conditioning, but also to mitigate the peaks in electricity demand in summer, thus helping to stabilize the electricity network.
Note that these recommendations follow a study carried out by CEREFE on the national potential in terms of the use of natural gas air conditioning, based on a series of visits throughout the national territory, which allowed to draw up an initial assessment of the installations carried out in Algeria, as part of the Commissariat’s overall approach to the evaluation of energy efficiency projects carried out in Algeria.
