Second consecutive victory for the CPC in the Antilles Guyana team championship! Already winners last year at home, the Cayennes repeated the feat this weekend, in Guadeloupe. With their performance, the players Alex Tertulien, Renato Bango, Bernard Bron, Keyvhen Rigolet, Gilbert Letard and Kevin Quetin further enrich their club’s record in this competition.
For his 16th edition, the championship hosted the eight best clubs from Martinique (3 teams), Guadeloupe (3 teams), and Guyana (2 teams). After sweeping the Franciscan Club in the quarter-finals (8-2), the CPC easily broke away from Etoile de la Morne à l’Eau in the semi-final (8-5). On the other side of the table, it is the Ping-Pong Club of Baie-Mahault, vice-champion of Guadeloupe, which qualified for the final.
Showing impressive determination and a spectacular level of play, the players brought together all the necessary ingredients to offer an exceptional match.
And as expected, this final kept all its promises. After more than five hours of combat and 14 matches, each more contested than the other, the two teams find themselves back to back: seven wins each and 26 sets everywhere! A perfect equality, as unexpected as it is historic.
Faced with this unprecedented scenario, it was necessary to count the number of points won over all fourteen games to decide between the two teams.
It’s finally a tiny difference of four points (479 once morest 475) the Cercle Pongiste de Cayenne to overthrow the Ping-Pong Club of Baie-Mahault and win the trophy for the fifth time in its history.
The other Guyanese club in the running, USL Montjoly, champion of Guyana, ranks 5th.
