Cepsa and the airline Binter join forces to produce sustainable fuels

Cepsa and the Binter airline have signed an agreement this Friday to promote the decarbonization of the aviation sector through the development and research of sustainable fuels for aviation, as well as to develop other energy alternatives, such as renewable hydrogen and electrification, for the airline’s ground fleets (vehicles for supply, baggage loading and unloading operations or aircraft assistance).

The oil company, which has been working for months on a plan to turn all its businesses green and become a benchmark in the energy transition, produces sustainable fuels in its industrial centers and develops studies to convert waste and used oils into fuels of renewable origin high energy value. While the airline champions measures such as the one to reduce the impact of its activity on the environment, such as the replacement of single-use plastics in on-board service for less polluting elements. In addition, it has one of the fleets of younger planes of the country, which allows it to take advantage of the improvements introduced by manufacturers to reduce both consumption and emissions.

The agreement was signed this morning at a ceremony held in Gran Canaria, in which representatives of both companies were present. During the signing of the agreement, the president of Binter, Rodolfo Nunezunderlined that this alliance marks “a very important step in Binter’s goal of providing the air transport service of the form more sustainable possible, for which it is essential to promote the consumption of new fuels with low environmental impact”. For his part, the director of Mobility and New Commerce at Cepsa, Pierre-Yves Sachet, highlighted that the oil company works “to provide innovative solutions that promote sustainable mobility”. “This agreement is a good example, with which we also contribute to the competitiveness of the tourism sector in Spain, the Canary Islands being its main point of reference”, he added.
