Kanchipuram: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that most of the brilliant Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the best global companies are the contribution of India’s higher education. The minister also said that in the list of top 500 companies according to Standard and Poor’s (S&P), the number of Indian CEOs is next to that of the US.
“CEOs of 58 top global companies are of Indian origin. All these companies have a combined revenue of $1 trillion. Their turnover will be 4 trillion. Such a huge corporate market is managed by 58 Indians who have completed their education in India. 25% of startups in US Silicon Valley can be proud of being managed by Indians.
This does not mean that we do not need changes in our education system. Efforts are needed to maintain excellence. India is on the path of transition to modern education methods” – said Nirmala at the graduation ceremony of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kancheepuram.
According to UN estimates, India’s working population will surpass China’s by 2028. In 2036, 65% of the country’s total population will be of working age. This will continue till 2047. When all these people get employment, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country will rise. Therefore, it is necessary to get proper training through education, the Union Minister said.
