The heads of the three domestic mobile telecommunication companies will attend the MWC business trip despite concerns about the new mutant virus ‘Omicron’. It plans to introduce future ICT technologies such as 5G mobile communication (5G), Metaverse, artificial intelligence (AI), and MX (converged reality) and seek ways to cooperate with global big tech companies.
According to related industries on the 21st, SK Telecom CEO Yoo Young-sang, KT CEO Koo Koo-mo, and LG U+ CEO Hwang Hyun-sik will visit the ‘MWC 2022’ site to be held in Barcelona, Spain from the 28th to the 3rd of next month.
MWC is the world’s largest mobile communication fair and will be held offline for the first time in three years since the 2019 Corona Virus. The CEOs of the three mobile telephony companies had recently considered a business trip due to the spread of Omicron, but decided to attend by minimizing the number of business trips.
At the MWC site, CEO Youngsang Yoo announces the vision of the SKT 2.0 era and expands hyper-cooperation with global big players in various industries. CEO Yoo plans to actively promote SK Telecom’s core technologies and services such as the achievements of 5G over the past three years and ifland, AI semiconductor, and quantum cryptography.
SK Telecom is providing differentiated customer experiences in various fields such as communication, AI, media, and ESG through collaboration with domestic companies such as Samsung and Kakao. In future business areas such as Metaverse, Game, Commerce, Cloud, and UAM, it is actively promoting cooperation with global companies such as Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Meta, Deutsche Telekom, and Joby Aviation. SK Telecom has prepared a large exhibition hall of 792㎡ (about 250 pyeong) in the center of Hall 3 of ‘Fira Gran Via’, the core exhibition hall of MWC 2022, and applied the metaverse to the exhibition viewing process.
As a member of the board of directors of the World Mobile Telecommunications Association (GSMA), which hosts MWC, CEO Koo Koo also sets up an exhibition booth in the GSMA common hall. CEO Koo plans to introduce AI and robot services aimed at the era of digital innovation (DX), which is accelerating due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, it is expected to participate in the recent GSMA discussion regarding the cost of using networks of global content providers (CPs) such as Netflix.
KT Pavilion consists of three zones: ▲AI ▲Robot ▲KT Group & Partner. Under the theme of ‘DIGICO KT, the engine of digital innovation’, it was composed in a way that the ground (the floor of the exhibition hall) and the sky (the ceiling) face each other around the main road. Through this, viewers can intuitively feel the era of digital innovation where the boundaries of time and space are collapsing.
CEO Hwang Hyun-sik plans to discuss 5G business cooperation plans with global big tech companies at the MWC site. CEO Hwang plans to visit the booths of big tech companies such as Amazon and Qualcomm and telecommunication equipment and terminal manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and Nokia to explore business direction and ICT trends this year. Next, the company plans to expand U+5G service and content export routes and discover opportunities for 5G cooperation with telecommunication companies in many regions around the world.
LG U+ operates a 5G service demonstration zone including a meeting place for buyers and XR contents in Hall 2 of the exhibition hall. In addition, we will discuss the creation of an open LAN (O-RAN) ecosystem, cloud transformation of 5G network infrastructure, and business cooperation with companies leading the metaverse.
