CEO: Germany and France will oppose the ban on the entry of Russians into the EU – Blomberg August 27, 2022 – Society – Saint-Petersburg News

Berlin and Paris intend to oppose a complete ban on entry into the eurozone for Russians. On August 27, reports Bloomberg with reference to a document in the possession of the publication.

“While understanding the concerns of some member states in this context, we should nevertheless not underestimate the transformative power of personal experience of living in democratic systems, especially for future generations,” the publication quotes a fragment of the document. It is noted that the authors of the statement consider it especially important to preserve the opportunity to visit the EU countries for Russian students, scientists, artists and specialists in a number of fields.

The countries stressed that the EU should continue issuing visas to non-Russians associated with the Russian authorities, in particular students, artists, scientists and professionals, despite the fact that the Russian EU neighbors insist on a complete halt to the issuance of visas.

An extraordinary meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers, which is expected to raise the issue of restricting the issuance of visas for Russian citizens, will be held in the Czech Republic on August 30-31. One of the compromise options that might be discussed is to make it more difficult for Russian citizens traveling in the EU to obtain short-stay visas.
