Central New York March for Israel group departs Dewitt for Washington D.C.
DEWITT, N.Y. —
The Central New York group of neighbors heading to Washington D.C. to March in support of Israel left Dewitt around 4 a.m. Tuesday, November 14.
With more than 200 kidnapped hostages still being held by Hamas, a march in Washington was planned to intensify calls for their release.
Jewish Community Center Executive Director Marci Erlebacher quickly organized a trip plan for local neighbors, giving them a chance to participate despite the six hour drive to Washington D.C.
Dozens of neighbors were seen boarding a travel bus Tuesday morning at the JCC.
CNY Central caught up with Erlebacher ahead of the bus leaving, asking why it was important for Central New Yorkers to be there Tuesday:
“It’s exciting we’re able to support israel in this way,” Erlebacher said. “We are marching for several things — one, we’re marching once morest antisemitism and to show support to Israel. And we’re marching to hopefully make sure everybody know, we want the kidnapped victims brought home.”
The latest numbers from the Anti-Defamation League show a 316% rise in anti-Semitic incidents. There has also been a 216% increase in anti-Arab and anti-Muslim incidents according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
