This Monday, September 18, central Italy, north of the city of Florence, was shaken by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8, according to the authorities. Fortunately, no casualties or immediate damage were reported. In response to the shock, some areas closed their schools as a precaution, and trains experienced delays while awaiting checks on the rail lines.
The epicenter of this earthquake, estimated at 4.8 on the Richter scale by the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), was near Marradi, a town with around 3,000 inhabitants, located in the mountain range of the Apennines.
On social network X, firefighters reported that frightened residents had contacted emergency services, but so far no injuries have been reported. The mayor of Marradi said that civil protection continued to carry out checks inside homes.
Although the concern is palpable and the streets are full of people, no significant deterioration has been noted, according to the mayor. It should be noted that this region had already been affected by a devastating earthquake in 1919, one of the most serious of the century, causing numerous human losses.
Note also that the central Apennines remains an area at high risk in terms of seismic activity.
