The Central Bank (CB) is discussing the possibility of Russians filing an application through Gosuslugi regarding the theft of funds by fraudsters from bank accounts, said Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank German Zubarev. The regulator intends to discuss this idea with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Digital Development.
“We are still at the initial stage of this discussion, so there are no specific deadlines, we will work with both the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Digital Development, of course,” Mr. Zubarev told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Ural forum “Cybersecurity in Finance”.
According to him, this initiative will help to accurately assess the volume of theft by cyber fraudsters of funds from customer accounts. As the deputy chairman of the Central Bank clarified, now such crimes have a “high latency”, because not all citizens turn to law enforcement agencies.
According to the Central Bank, in 2022 cyber fraudsters stole 14.2 billion rubles from clients of Russian banks. At the same time, the number of cases of theft of money from bank accounts in Russia last year decreased by 15.31% (to 877 thousand). From February 2022, the Central Bank initiates the blocking of mobile applications and pages on social networks used by fraudsters to steal funds.
